It is easy to join the Pravasi Pension Scheme.
This post is a step by step guide on how to apply for Pravasi Pension plan(officially known as Pravasi Kshemanidhi).
Kshemanidhi pension plan is a govt of Kerala initiative under the Non Resident Keralites’ Welfare Act, 2008.
Almost all services of pravasi welfare board can be now done via their official website.
Earlier, the website was broken and there was total confusion about which form to use, how to login, sign up etc.
But now, after logging in with mobile phone and creating an account, those having no old membership, can apply from there.

But before that, What is the eligibility for applying for pension?
Kshemanidhi pravasi pention eligibilty.
- Obviously, you should be an ex pravasi or still working pravasi.
- In the case of ex pravasi, you should have spent minimum of 2 years outside the state/country.
- Age should be between 18 to 60 years.
New registration - members without old membership id or Login.
If you don’t have any membership number or card with you, then just go to the pravasi welfare website and click on create account-> New Registration.
From here you have to provide mobile number and an OTP will be sent to your phone for verification. From here, you can set a password and access the dashboard.
Joining pension Category 1 - Non-Resident Keralites(Working Abroad)
Documents required
- Photo
- Sign
- Visa(expired proving your stay) or existing visa for non-resident keralite.
- Passport for proving DOB, address and other details.
After filling all the personal details and uploading the documents you have to submit and pay an amount of 200. After verification, your application will be either rejected or approved.

Usually it takes 2 or three weeks to complete document verification.
After getting approved, you can pay the monthly subscription amount via the same website.
Joining pension Category 2 - Resident Keralites(Returned pravasi).
Documents needed.
- Photo
- Sign
- Visa(expired proving your stay) or existing visa for non-resident keralite.
- Passport for proving DOB, address and other details.
- Nativity certificate(only for returned pravasi), by a gazetted officer.
After filling all the personal details and uploading the documents you have to submit and pay an amount of 200. After verification, your application will be either rejected or approved.
After getting member id, you can pay the monthly subscription amount via the same website.
Re-registration - members with old membership id or Login.
If you already had a memberID, but don’t have username or password to login, click on the existing member registration.
Then you can see a page like this.
If the membership number and DOB match, you can create an account from here.
Even if you have not provided any phone number or wrong/old phone, you can get a new account from here.
But for this recovery option to work, the DOB and the member id should match.

After logging in using phone/email and generated password from above step, you can do all the applications from this dashboard.
Starting from applying for pension scheme to changing details like mobile number, DOB, print application, view paid amount etc.
From here, you can also apply for different schemes like pension, assistance, housing subsidy scheme, category change, challan updation etc.
The registration fee for enrollment is Rs. 200 for all categories.
